I started building the paint up very thinly, using it as if it was watercolour. At first it was working well, but when I tried to introduce structure into it I found it hard to still keep the paint balanced, this in turn made me crowd the canvas with different colours of paint, which is why it is so busy. I decided to abandon the thinner paint and introduce brush stroke as I thought the effect of the thinner paint being moved in a different way accentuated certain areas and gave it the structure it needed at the beginning, which was something I was struggling with.
